Ingredients

First of all, check if you have all the necessary ingredients for this recipe. Pay attention to the quantities!

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
1 1/2 cups heavy cream ( for the chocolate ganache )
340g semisweet chocolate, finely chopped ( for the chocolate ganache )
1 teaspoon vanilla extract ( for the chocolate ganache )

The Steps

Next, follow the steps to finalize your dish and finally be able to enjoy it!

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes, until well combined.
Reduce the speed to low and carefully add the boiling water to the cake batter. Mix until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin, but that's okay.
Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
While the cakes are cooling, prepare the chocolate ganache. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then whisk until smooth and shiny. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Once the cakes have cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Pour a generous amount of chocolate ganache over the cake layer, allowing it to drip down the sides. Repeat with the second cake layer.
Use the remaining ganache to frost the sides of the cake, creating a smooth finish.
For an extra touch, you can decorate the cake with chocolate curls, sprinkles, or fresh berries.
